Ganevat Galore

Jean-Francois Ganevat is an iconic winemaker, heralded not just as one of the best vignerons in Jura but in the natural wine world full stop. His family have deep roots in Jura and Jean-Francois began by working alongside his father in the 1970s. Formal training at wine school followed and thereafter a stint in Burgundy with Domaine Marc Morey, before Jean-Francois returned to take over the family business in 1998 where his legendary reputation has grown stronger with each passing year.

With these wines increasingly hard to come by, we're delighted to be able to offer our widest selection of wines from Jean-Francois for some time including both Domaine and négoce bottlings, and even a few magnums available if you fancy going all in!

L'Apéro (£42)

L'Apéro is a natural sparkling wine (pét-nat) produced under the négociant project of Jean-Francois and sister Anne from Alsatian varieties including Riesling, Sylvaner and Muscat. Crisp citrus, green apple, delicate white blossoms, vibrant minerality, and gentle, refreshing bubbles.

La Croix des Batailles (£59) or Magnum (£135)

From the négociant range with Anne Ganevat, La Croix de Batailles is a blend of Gamay from granitic soils in Beaujolais blended with Jura Chardonnay and vinified without fining, filtration or sulphur. A supple and fruity wine with ripe cherry and raspberry fruit and savoury, peppered game notes lurking underneath.

Mon Rouge (£55)

Another from Anne and Jean-Francois' négoce range, this is a charming, ethereal Gamay from old vines growing in the Beaujolais cru of Chiroubles. Very pretty red fruit with signature Ganevat savouriness coming through on the long, elegant palate.

La Colline des Dames (£64)

100% Pinot Noir sourced from cool, limestone-rich organic vineyards in Alsace that was hand-harvested and underwent cold semi-carbonic maceration in wooden vats. Airy, delicate, and silky with a nose of wild strawberries, tart cherries, blood orange peel, and peony/hibiscus. Light-bodied with vibrant limestone acidity on the palate.

Côtes du Jura Pinot Noir 'Les Chonchons' (£92)

Pinot Noir from the acclaimed ‘Les Chonchons’ parcel where old vines grow in grey marl. More red fruit than black on the nose with wonderful purity and a floral edge to the gorgeous, smoky raspberry palate.

Côtes du Jura Chardonnay 'Florine' (£150)

100% domaine grown Chardonnay from old vines planted in 1986 and grown on a deep bed of grey lias marl and limestone gravel. Aged for 4 years on fine lees in old oak barrels, it leads with bruised pear, crisp yellow apple, and intense lemon zest, layered over complex notes of wet stone, flint, warm brioche, and a subtle hint of reduction or smoke.

Côtes du Jura 'Les Survivants' (£130)

Les Survivants is Chardonnay from a number of parcels - 'the survivors' of a frost that severely affected the Ganevat harvest in 2021 - aged for 3 years in 600 litre oak barrels. A vigorous and layered wine with signature high-toned fruit, a silky mouthfeel and touches of baking spices, hay and stone fruit.

Côtes du Jura Chardonnay 'Les Cèdres' Magnum (£220)

In magnum from the 2020 vintage, Les Cèdres is Chardonnay from a single plot of 80 year old vines growing in marl and limestone, aged for 3 years on lees in old barrels. Taut and chiseled with electrifying, saline lemon aromas and complex savoury aromas of nuts and spices that have developed nicely with age.
