Domaine Mas Lau Clin d'Oeil
Country: France
Region: Languedoc
Grapes: Oeillade
Vintage: 2020
Laurent Bagnol makes wild and rustic wines in his cellar deep in the Languedoc scrubland between Montpellier and Nimes. He works with old vines – some up to 100 years – bearing mostly indigenous grapes such as Oeillade, Carignan and Cinsault which are adapted to the intense climate of the area. Laurent has a laissez-faire approach to winemaking, letting the grapes speak for themselves and allowing some brettanomyces and volatile acidity in the finished wines.
Clin d'Oeil is made from the Oeillade variety, a grape indigenous to the Languedoc but now nearly extinct. It's spicy and surprisingly fresh with touches of wood smoke, earth and dark, balsamic fruit.
