Bénédicte & Stéphane Tissot Arbois Chardonnay 'Patchwork'
Country: France
Region: Jura
Grapes: Chardonnay
Vintage: 2022
The domaine of Bénédicte & Stéphane Tissot is widely regarded as one of the very best in Jura, and the Tissot family more generally is widely known in the region for its long tradition of winemaking. Bénédicte & Stéphane converted the domaine to organics in 1999 and biodynamics shortly after, with the focus on pure expressions of terroir. The whites are characterised by a signature smoky reductive quality on the nose and immense power on the palate while the reds are fragrant and ethereal.
Patchwork is a blend of five parcels bringing together both clay and limestone soils; the average vine age is around 35 years and the wine is vinified entirely in oak, about 10% new. More taut and linear than Gravieres with hallmark smoky reduction on the nose and zingy citrus fruit overlaid with savoury baked pastry and hazelnuts.
