Leonardo Sassi is based in Tarano, Lazio, a beautiful area right on the western edge of the Sabine Mountains, sheltered by the Lazio pre-Apennines and adjacent the border with Umbria. At an altitude of 300m above sea level, the vineyards have their roots in a complex mix of clay, sand and silt from the Plio-Pleistocene period. These are vibrant, energetic and enchanting wines handcrafted in the vineyard and in the cellar, without any other external intervention: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, no temperature control, enzymes or yeast added, and no filtration or added sulphur.
‘Summer Time’ is a playful chillable red made from Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, given a brief maceration before fermentation in concrete. Light, juicy and vibrantly fresh, it brims with crunchy red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate, with a gentle herbal lift and bright acidity. Served lightly chilled, it’s the perfect companion for warm afternoons, picnics and long summer evenings.
