Amorotti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Amorotti make classic ageworthy wines in the historic region of Abruzzo. Gaetano’s winery is still housed in his family’s cellar in Loreto Aprutino across the street from the famed Valentini cellar, and the style is certainly comparable. His vineyards are planted in chalky-clay soils high in the hills of Abruzzo and have been certified organic since 2009. They also represent incredible value, when compared with some of the other big players in the region.
The Montepulciano is bold and rich. With only 4 years on it it's definitely still a baby, but already beginning to open up with intense blackberry and plum fruit, fresh mint and savoury herbs. Grippy tannins, great acidity and sheer intensity of flavour will help this age gracefully for many years to come.
