Cantina Bartolo Mascarello Barolo
Country: Italy
Region: Piedmont
Grapes: Nebbiolo
Vintage: 2017
Bartolo Mascarello was a legendary Barolo producer and the flag bearer for the traditional style of winemaking during the Barolo wars of the 1970s that pitted the 'traditionalists' against the 'modernists'. Bartolo passed away in 2005, handing the reins to his daughter Maria Teresa who has amply upheld the domaine's reputation for crafting some of the very finest Barolos.
In the traditionalist vein of blending from multiple sites, Cantina Bartolo Mascarello makes just one Barolo which is a combination of four crus: Cannubi, San Lorenzo, Ruè and Rocche, there is no Riserva. A show-stopping wine of ineffable charm and finesse and enchanting aromas of red cherries, strawberries, tar, leather and rose hip. Already drinking well but worth laying down for a couple of decades!
