Bencze Birtok Chenin Blanc
Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Istvan Bencze has a small patchwork of vines on the side of Szent György mountain in Badacsony, Hungary. The soil is made up mainly from volcanic basalt with a mix of clay, loess and sand. He picks early to preserve acidity and works with minimal intervention in the winery.
This is a delightful Chenin Blanc with more than a nod to the fine examples of the Loire. Vinified and aged in amphora for 10 months and bottled without fining, filtration or sulphur, it's multilayered with citrus, fresh apple and chalky minerality wrapped up in a silky body from the porous clay.
