Black Mountain is the tiny organic wine project of Emma and Mark Smith whose winery is located in a small shed down a narrow country lane in site of the Brecon Beacons. In total they have three hectares of vines planted with a combination of Pinots Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, Solaris and Cab Cortis on shallow clay soils over loamy red sandstone.

A special release, a single barrel comprising their entire 2019 vintage (a tough year) topped up with the last of their 2018 Pinots. 60% Pinot Meunier from 2019, crushed gently, a couple days maceration, pressed to barrel in November 2019. 40% is the last of the Pinots Noir and Meunier from 2018, gently crushed before a couple days macerating, pressed to tank for about 24 months. Bottled in May 2021 and aged on the lees another 17 months before disgorgement, this is a complex and savoury col fondo with delicate hedgerow and cherry fruit cut through with electric acidity.
