Domaine De Montrieux Grandgousier
Region: Loire Valley
Grapes: Pineau d'Aunis
Ariane Lesne's Domaine de Montrieux is an homage to Pineau d'Aunis. Working as a wine merchant in Paris and the UK, she fell in love with this Loire rarity that has the silky, ethereal appeal of Pinot Noir but with an added floral flare. The Pineau d'Aunis of Domaine de Montrieux originally owned by Emile Heredia was her favourite example, and when the estate was put up for sale in 2014 she jumped at the opportunity.
Grandgousier is Ariane's flagship wine, a memorable experience and probably the most enjoyable Pineau d'Aunis we've ever tasted. From old vines between 55 and 120 years, it has an intoxicating aroma of exotic spice, sweet fruit and white pepper with an alluring savoury depth.
