Gazzetta is the wine making project of Trish Nelson, an Australian who after spending several years working at Cantina Giardino and Le Coste bought a small cottage among vines in the hills of northern Lazio. In all she has two hectares of old vineyards planted with Procanico and Ansonica, Malvasia and Moscato.
A blend of Sangiovese and Montepulciano from twenty five year old vines planted over clay and limestone near Orvieto. This was fermented mostly as whole bunches for three weeks, before nine months of rest in chestnut casks. Incredibly savoury with notes of black cherry, balsamic and woody herbs, it would be beautiful with a nice piece of beef or some salsiccia off the grill.
