Georges Comte Le Moutherot 'Champs de la Pierre'

Georges Comte Le Moutherot 'Champs de la Pierre'

Country: France

Region: Doubs, Jura

Grapes: Chardonnay

Vintage: 2015

Georges Comte makes unbelievably Chardonnay in the tiny region of Doubs, somewhere between the Jura and Burgundy, a region that is a complete hidden treasure. Since 1989 he’s farmed eight hectares of vines planted over a magnificent terroir akin to Puligny-Montrachet named Le Moutherot, where the perfect combination of firm clay and limestone produces wines of great structure, minerality and depth. He ages all wines in old barrels for at least two years, following the moon’s cycles and bottling by hand. After this they spend as much time as they need in bottle before release.

From a warmer vintage, the 2015 is a Chardonnay that is already incredibly open and detailed. Full and complex, heady with orchard fruits and a touch of spice, it is a wonderful marriage of time, grape and place. Wonderful now, we can’t wait to watch it evolve further over the coming years.
