Silvia Tezza of Il Roccolo di Monticelli makes natural wine from an old family vineyard on the limestone hills between Verona and Soave. The vines were originally planted in the 1960s and are surrounded by thousand-year-old olives trees which are the primary crop here.
Monticelli Rosso is a blend of all Silvia's red varieties that are hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts and bottled without fining, filtration or sulphur. It's lifted and fragrant with floral notes of violet and rose petal, black pepper and a hint of bitter herbs which often takes the place of acidity to add structure to wines from this area.
