Jean-Pierre Robinot Opéra Blanc
Country: France
Region: Loire
Grapes: Chenin Blanc
Vintage: 2021
The phrase 'natural wine legend' is sometimes overused, but the moniker certainly applies to Jean-Pierre Robinot. Having founded the famous Paris wine bar L’Ange Vin and France’s premier Natural Wine journal Le Rouge et le Blanc, he now makes incredible wine in the Loire across two appellations, Jasnières and the Coteaux-du-Loir. Farming is biodynamic, vinification is slow and patient but always worth the wait.
Opéra Blanc is Chenin Blanc from twenty five year old vines planted over clay and limestone in Anjou. The grapes were pressed directly, before a short rest in cuve. Bottled young and brimming with energy, this is the most immediate expression of the grape we have tried from the Robinots. Straw yellow in the glass, it draws you in with gentle notes of stone fruits and minerals before a whistle clean finish. A textbook bistro wine that piles on the charm.
