La Perdida A Chaira
Grapes: Dona Branca
Nacho Gonzales of La Perdida is a biologist by trade, starting down the road of natural winemaking when his grandmother bequeathed him a single gnarly old vineyard, O Trancado. He now works six previously abandoned old plots which he has nurtured back to health, vinifying the grapes with minimal intervention in his tiny cellar in the town of Larouco.
A Chaira is a field blend of 90% Dona Branca and several other indigenous varieties fermented on skins for 4 months in open top tinajas (large amphorae). The result is a wild, rugged and savoury orange wine with aromas of poached pear, chamomile, and preserved lemon.
