La Voluta Mamba
Grapes: Grenache, Carignan
Anna and Jean Benoit of La Voluta farm 6.5 hectares of vines in the arid hills of Roussillon, focussing on the hardy varieties such as Grenache and Carignan that have thrived in this dry, mountainous region for centuries. Viticulture is organic with no pesticides or herbicides used and minimal intervention in the cellar, so no fining filtration or sulphur.
Mamba is a 50-50 blend of Grenache and Carignan from clay and calcareous soil 350m above sea level, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged briefly in fibreglass tanks. It's structured and herbal with notes of blackberry and plum overlaid with the aromas of the garrigue.
