La Voluta Red Bush
Anna and Jean Benoit of La Voluta farm 6.5 hectares of vines in the arid hills of Roussillon, focussing on the hardy varieties such as Grenache and Carignan that have thrived in this dry, mountainous region for centuries. Viticulture is organic with no pesticides or herbicides used and minimal intervention in the cellar, so no fining filtration or sulphur.
Red Bush is Carignan from a single plot of 45 year old vines that is whole bunch fermented before being pressed off to age in old oak for 12 months. The most concentrated and intense of the La Voluta wines, it has a complex core of dark fruit, tobacco spice, wild herbs and baked earth.
