Laurent Saillard Scarlette
Region: Loire Valley
Grapes: Pineau d'Aunis, Gamay
Laurent Saillard is one of our favourite Loire winemakers. He moved to New York when he was younger, helping to open Balthazar and then starting one of the first natural wine bars in New York. He now has a vineyard in the Loire where he crafts natural wines with zero additions that have an immediate appeal but plenty of depth and complexity.
Scarlette is made from the Loire rarity Pineau d'Aunis with a touch of Gamay. It's wonderfully aromatic with early grey, lavender and blackcurrant aromas overlaid with a dusting of black pepper. Light and well-textured on the palate with a snap of balancing acidity.
