Little Pomona Do It Puritan! Damson Perry
Apples: Damson, Perry Pears, Medlar
Susanna and James Forbes of Little Pomona make natural cider from their 120 tree orchard in Thornbury, North Herefordshire. In their own words, their aim is to make cider that "speak of the land, that taste of the harvest, that illustrate the wonderful cider making heritage the region is built on, and that look to the future".
The latest Do It Puritan is made from Shropshire Prune damsons picked from gnarly old trees in a hundred-year old hill top orchard. These were carbonically macerated with some Thorn and Hendre Huffcap perry pears for four weeks, before pressing off to barrels to ferment spontaneously. This was then blended with fresh perry pear and medlar juice. The result is an astonishingly aromatic, sparkling fruit bomb – Summer pudding in a glass!
