Grapes: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir
Offbeat is the West Country based winemaking project of Daniel Ham which began in 2018. Daniel works as naturally as possible with hybrid varieties suited to the English climate, ferments are wild and little if any sulphur is used. Production is small with only 2,000 bottles of each cuvee made.
Watchtower is a direct-pressed Pinot Meunier with a little Pinot Noir, aged in an 800 litre Amphora with no added sulphur. Originally destined for a sparkling, winemaker Dan admitted he'd grown a bit tired of being tied to the style and was pleased as he tasted through winter and into spring that the wine was going to work nicely without any secondary fermentation. A lightly spritzy rose that's equal parts fresh and funky.
