Péter Wetzer makes natural wine from his family home in Sopron, Hungary, reviving a tradition that had lapsed in his family 150 years earlier. He uses the original old press and takes advantage of the rich microbial flora in the area to vinify his wines naturally in traditional Hungarian barrels.

Spern Steiner is Péter's single vineyard Kékfrankos from vines over 60 years old growing in a combination of schist, quartz and gneiss on an east facing slope near to Lake Sopron. Fermented and aged in 500 litre Hungarian oak barrels, this is lifted and fragrant with aromas of eastern spices, cedar, and blackcurrant leaf. Bright on the palate with vibrant acidity and some peppered game notes adding a savoury edge.
