Leonardo Sassi is based in Tarano, Lazio, a beautiful area right on the western edge of the Sabine Mountains, sheltered by the Lazio pre-Apennines and adjacent the border with Umbria. At an altitude of 300m above sea level, the vineyards have their roots in a complex mix of clay, sand and silt from the Plio-Pleistocene period. These are vibrant, energetic and enchanting wines handcrafted in the vineyard and in the cellar, without any other external intervention: spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, no temperature control, enzymes or yeast added, and no filtration or added sulphur.
‘A Riveder Le Stelle’ is a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, given a longer maceration of around three weeks before resting in concrete. The result is a wine of real depth and resonance – dark, juicy black cherry and plum layered with spice, earth and a gentle herbal lift. Structured yet vibrant, it’s a soulful red that carries both intensity and freshness, its name evoking the promise of seeing the stars again.
