Roberto Henriquez Torontel Super Estrella
Country: Chile
Region: Itata Valley
Grapes: Torontel
Vintage: 2021
A native of Concepción, Roberto Henriquez is part of the very small-scale, zero-input agriculture and winemaking community of Chile – with minimal intervention, manual destemming, gentle crushing of grapes and punch downs, only using Chilean wood and short macerations. He farms 7ha spread across 4 parcels which are close together in the mountains near Cordillera de Nahuelbuta, with vines which are hundreds of years old: Pais (200 years old), Moscatel d’Alejandria, ‘Corinto’ (Chasselas) and Semillon (all 100 years old).
This is Torontel (Torrontes) from a tiny plot of 100 year old vines planted among the Semillon for Rivera Del Notro. Spontaneously fermented on the skins with indigenous yeast stainless steel for 2 weeks, before ageing in old oak barrels and bottling unfiltered with minimal sulphur. A unique skin contact wine with citrus and tropical notes reminiscent of Muscat with a subtle herbal character. High in acid with medium body, delicate aromatics and a saline finish.
