Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Country: Italy
Region: Abruzzo
Grapes: Trebbiano
Vintage: 2019
Edoardo Valentini was known locally as the “Lord of the Vines.” This resolute old-timer, when he was alive, always disregarded all modern conventions and wrapped his operations in a shroud of mystery, fervently guarding his production techniques from outsiders. Valentini’s wines always display a startlingly natural character, their individual quirks only enhancing their profound charm. It's for good reason that along with Emilio Pepe, his wines are some of the most revered and sought after wines in the world.
His Trebbiano always takes on uncommon colours, aromas, depth, complexity, and ability to age for several more decades. When you do want to drink it, get out the decanter, the best wine glasses and an appreciative audience. We like to uncork it and leave it for a few hours to open up. When it's ready the wine remains thoroughly focused, a brilliant note of reductive bees wax strongly coiled around a core of stone fruit and slatey minerals.
