Domaine du Météore is a unique Faugères estate located in and around a crater that was created when a 20 metre wide meteorite crashed into the area 10,000 years ago. First identified as a possible meteor impact site more than 70 years ago, it wasn't until last year that German scientists confirmed the otherworldly source of the 200m wide crater upon which the domaine's Syrah is grown.
The location of this special domaine is also impressive; set as it is in the village of Cabrerolles, over three hundred metres up in the foothills of the Cevennes mountain range. Here the jagged slopes act to shelter the vines from harsh winds and create a down-current of cool air that brings freshness and acidity in this otherwise fierce climate, and the low-yielding vines grow in rocky schist soils that force the roots to delve deep in search of nutrients and imbue the wines with pronounced minerality.
Naturally blessed as they are, Corinne and Simon are keen to express their one-of-a-kind terroir as directly and honestly as possible; the domaine is certified organic and working towards biodynamic certification, and in the cellar nothing is added or taken away - save for a touch of sulphur at bottling.
Léonides Blanc: A blend of Vermentino, Clairette, Roussanne and Viognier directly pressed and fermented and aged in stainless steel. A delightfully mineral and textured wine with aromas of peaches and pears, wild fennel, cedar and citrus blossom.Léonides Rouge: A blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault, de-stemmed and macerated for 4 weeks on skins before fermentation and over two years ageing in stainless steel. A beautifully supple mix of red and black fruit with a savoury, meaty quality and hints of wild rosemary and thyme. Perséides Rouge: A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with the Grenache fermented and aged in stainless steel and the Syrah and Mourvèdre in old Burgundy barrels. Deep and inky with spicy blackberry and liquorice notes overlaid with hints of mint and bay.Le Météore Rosé: A blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Mourvèdre directly pressed and fermented in stainless steel.
